Let’s not get stuck in a rut! Whether we’re in lockdown or free to do as we please, we need to remember that self-preservation is super important. Not to mention exciting ideas on how to keep the whole family entertained through good books, home workouts, meditation, and TV programmes to binge…

Need inspiration to get you through January and beyond? Keep reading…

This is our Top 5 Books for Kids to Read

Seeing as many kids are being home schooled, regular reading could be slotted into their daily routine easily. Even if it means them reading a few pages or chapter in the morning, during lunchtime breaks or before bed with mum or dad.

The Centre have created a list of top 5 books to get kids interested, with a variety of subjects from kindness, love and dreaming big.

  • Tomorrow I’ll Be Kind by Jessica Hishe: A heartfelt reminder to always treat others with kindness.
  • A Little Book About 123’ by Leo Lionni: A new board book for babies & toddlers alike. They’ll get children to love counting along with the adorable little mice features in the read.
  • Just Like Me by Vanessa Newton: A collection of mini stories that celebrate different girls from all sorts of backgrounds with various goals – girls who feel powerful, who give back to other and who love. They share their thoughts & dreams throughout.
  • The Box Turtle by Vanessa Roeder: Cuteness overload coming your way! A little turtle, born without a shell, so his parents gave him a cardboard box instead – just so he felt the same.
Terrance the turtle learns lessons in loving yourself, embracing weirdness and forming friendships.
  • Grandma’s Garden by Hillary & Chelsea Clinton: Grandma Dorothy passes on her love of nature to her granddaughter. An uplifting story of their time together, celebrating a unique bond that forms across generations when sharing things, we love.

Need new books to keep the kiddies entertained? Grab them from the centre when you’re next picking up the essentials – we’d recommend a trip to Poundland or WHSmith. Chesterfield Library is also open and operating a Click & Collect system, so you can pick up everything from fun to educational.

PS: If you’re struggling to get your children to pick up a book, you could always try the following educational sites for your kids to read through and review instead!

Home Workout for the Win

Let’s get moving! Home workouts burst onto the scene during the first Lockdown and ever since have become a part of most people’s daily routine.

Whether you want to get fit while furloughed or enjoy time with your kids after a long day of home schooling, we suggest looking into the below coaches:

Be inspired by Joe Wicks: Great workout for parents & children alike! Don’t forget to check out his social channels so you don’t miss out on those live PE workouts.

Courtney Black: A young talent with one goal in mind – to get people healthy, happy, and confident in themselves. She provides great workouts for women and men all around the world. We particularly love the sound of her Warrior Wednesday’s – so, if you’re up for the challenge, sign up with your partner, mum or friend and kickstart your workout journey.

If you’re in need of new gym accessories like water bottles, be sure to pop to Poundland and Tesco at the centre. Don’t forget that once all stores re-open, you could grab extra gym wear from Sports Direct.

In need of snacks (popcorn, wine & choccies)? Head to the centre and pick out a few of your favourites from Poundland, Tesco or even Pound Bakery & Greggs for a takeaway treat!

Self-Help: How to Unwind

You can’t let the pandemic get you down, so we need to make time for SELF-LOVE. We’ve got a few tips & tricks on how to unwind while you’re at home alone, with flat mates or family.

Mani Pedi Time! Pop to Boots and pick-up new nail polishes to get creative with. We’d HIGHLY recommend a cheeky facemask here or conditional hair mask there… Why not go all out and treat yourself to an evening of TLC? Men can also get involved by trialling out charcoal facemasks and new beard oils or cleansing moisturisers!

Meditation & Yoga: Find your ‘zen’ by meditating in the morning or before bed. We’ve heard that meditation (and yoga) has been a significant way to reduce stress… We’d suggest that if you’re new to the yoga scene, to pop YouTube on and start with a beginner’s class & build up your stretching strength. When you’re next at the centre picking up your essentials, you could grab a new yoga book from WHSmith for a little inspo.

Engaging with Others: It’s so significant that we talk to friends & family during these hard times. Even reaching out to those we may not know well, but who seem to be struggling just to see how they are could make an impactful difference to one’s life. Many people find that opening up about their struggles have helped them tremendously – so taking a couple minutes out of your day to ask or chat can make the world of difference.

So, be sure to check in on the ones you love from time to time. FYI, you could do this over the phone, text, social media, video calls or sending letters.

We think we’ve given you plenty of ideas when it comes to health, happiness and self-help during 2021 and beyond. And even though some shops are currently closed, be sure to make the most of your time at home, because once we’re summoned to work, there’s no going back! We’re hoping for the rest of the year to be as positive as we believe it can be, and we look forward to seeing you at the centre soon. #KindnessIsKey #PositiveVibesOnly

Let’s Talk: January Fun!

Despite the pandemic keeping us indoors up until mid-February, let’s make it as good as we can and see the positives when it comes to having more free time (again) with the people you love the most! We still have a great feeling about 2021 and look forward to some fun times ahead!

This Style article will provide inspiration from ‘how to keep the kiddies entertained’, ‘making homework time fun’, to weekend activities that will help you unwind from ‘Parent mode’ to ‘Pina Colada Monday Fundays’… *wink wink*

5,4,3,2, FUN!

Wondering how to keep the kiddies entertained now that home schooling has started, and their clubs are cancelled? Maths, Football, literacy, and gymnastics – you name it, you’ll have to do it from home! So, why not create a fun space to learn in addition to their very own club where they can still have that ‘release’ from a long day of working at home with mum or dad.

Home Schooling ROCKS: Wondering how you’re going to get through the day? Well, the trick is routine! Be sure to have your breakfast together and prep your children for the day ahead. Maths in the morning, small snack breaks, lunch, and free time in the afternoon to revise or for ‘quiet time’ like reading or writing a creative story… Plus, use ALL the resources that the school are willing to give you. Whether it’s as simple as a colouring sheet, mock test papers to increase their skills or online sites that they can work through daily.

Making it fun doesn’t have to be a chore either, the more they realise they can learn ANYWHERE, the more they’re going to want to, especially if you’re giving them praise along the way. If you’ve noticed that they’ve scored high on a spelling quiz or similar, you can treat them to something small. Maybe a favourite takeaway or small ‘prize’ when you pop out for the essentials? We think they’ll love it.

Football Club: Set up a goal outside (or indoors if you’re brave enough) and get a soft ball that they can kick about and practice their goals. You could cheer them on from the side or even play 1-on-1 to test their skills! Need snacks and carton juice boxes to keep the energy levels up? Pick up what you need from Tesco.

Prima Ballerinas: Wherever there’s room, get their ballet shoes on and start to perfect their plié. Set them a goal where they come up with a 10-step routine that they can perform to the family before dinner time. *In case ballet blisters occur, prepare with plasters from Boots on your next visit to the centre.

Stretch it Out: Get flexible with your kids and do a stretching routine before they show off some of their gymnastic moves! Be sure to lay out pillows so they don’t bump or bruise themselves on any hard surfaces.

Get Arty: Get the paints, glitter, and coloured paper at the ready! Your children can get creative & paint a modern family portrait. Grab bits & bobs from Poundland or WHSmith at the centre as they’re still open for the essentials.

Get your Groove On: Let them have some fun with what you can find in the house. We’re talking, making music with pots & pans, or dusting off the family recorder… Obviously, this isn’t for the faint hearted, but they could come up with their own January jingle and play it back to you & the family. You could also grab dinner from Tesco to enjoy after the big show… YUM!

Indoor Camp-Out: This will have everyone super excited – sleeping bags, yummy snacks, and movies galore. If, as a family you fancy grabbing a few new treats to try, be sure to grab something sweet (or savoury) from Greggs & Pound Bakery which is currently click & collect only. (We would love a yum-yum right about now or a traditional sausage roll!)

Parenting Mode: Off

A spa day for you and your partner sounds nice, right? (Or it could be just for you). Grab essentials like facemasks, bubble bath, bath bombs and more from shops like Boots & Poundland. You could even browse Bodycare once the store opens up again.

Unfortunately, not all our stores are open right now, but if you’re waiting for the centre to re-open fully, you could write a list of everything you’ll need for your ‘at home spa day’ and grab it with ease after Lockdown 3.0 is lifted.

Need more inspiration? We got you! For those 18+, pick a day most suitable and enjoy a cocktail making experience at home. You could easily grab ingredients & probably even a new mixer from Tesco… Plus, if you feel like getting extra fancy, you could pick up new homeware from Poundland or Tesco too.

We have a popular #January cocktail at your service: (Yes, we know – we’ve thought of everything)

Fresh fruit cocktails don’t have to retreat during winter. Liven up your go-to Negroni with tangy grapefruit segments and grapefruit peel swirled inside the glass.

You’ll need:

  • Long, wide slice of grapefruit peel
  • 2 peeled ruby red grapefruit segments (or 1-ounce fresh ruby red grapefruit juice)
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1-ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2-ounce Campari

This tipple will switch ‘parent mode’ off and ‘fun time while the kids are tucked away in bed’ swiftly on! You can thank us later.

Enjoying Time as a Family: January Edition

Been a long week of family meals, zoom meetings and helping with your child’s homework? Enjoy some down time as a family and bring the ‘mad hatter’s’ tea party to your home. Make the dining table or kitchen space whimsical by creating a scrummy tea party where you can all wear wacky hats and crazy clothes! This can all be finished up with your favourite finger sandwiches, tea, cool glasses of milk and mini cupcakes. Does this not sound like the perfect way to enjoy January 2021? It does to us.

While preparing the final touches, let the kids have some fun and help you lay the fruit on the table and get the paper cups at the ready – we know they’ll love feeling involved. Whether its new tableware, paper plates, food and any extra bits – be sure to pick up the essentials you may need from Poundland or Tesco. You could even get dressed up as a family – theme could be: Cosy Jumpers/Outfit Coordinates for the WIN! You can grab something for the whole family from Sports Direct once the centre fully re-opens.

We’re hoping our ideas will inspire you to kick the January blues right in the kahunas! Like we said before, even though some shops are currently closed, be sure to make the most of the time you have at home with loved ones & making some of the ideas above a reality. We’re hoping for a healthy & positive 2021 and we can’t wait to see you at the centre again soon. #ShopSafe #InThisTogethe

Prepping for a Positive 2021…

Seeing as 2020 dealt us a bad hand, we want to give you a few tips on how to keep your spirit up in the New Year.

  1. Live Each Day to the Fullest: We all thought that 2020 ‘was our year’ but knowing how drastically the world can change in a matter of weeks, should remind us to take each day as it comes and to think more about what we want to do. So, walk briskly into 2021 with a little more spontaneity under your belt and say YES to things you may not have previously. You never know what a simple ‘yes’ could bring you…

Feeling spontaneous right now and feel like you deserve an end of December treat? Pop to Sports Direct once they re-open and grab yourself a cosy clothing set or a new pair of kicks!

Everybody at Chesterfield Pavements think that it’d be great to keep positive affirmations on a board or diary… Then, each day you can find a positive quote that puts your mindset back in the right place! If you’re in need of notepads, scrap books, pens and more, head to WHSmith where there’s tonnes to choose from.

  1. Set Goals: This could be anything from baking once a week, heading to the gym and smashing your 10K steps goal or simply reading a new book each week – the world is literally your oyster… A new hobby could really put your mind in a positive space, making you feel busy and appreciated! (We always feel so appreciated when a new recipe works out and people are thanking you for satisfying their sweet tooth…).

Head to your local gym and sign up now. Or pop to Tesco for essential baking bits & WHSmith for a new page turner.

  1. Create a Safe Space for Family & Friends: We now know how important it is for us to speak out when we’re feeling a bit blue. Keeping positive for the New Year means that you should have a ‘safe space’ to talk to friends and family and vice versa. Knowing that you can call someone once a week to check in to see how you both are is an important part of keeping positivity up and negativity buried away! Grab a new diary from the centre and pencil in your loved ones each week, so you don’t forget to check up on one another.

Positive Quotes We <3

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” – Helen Keller

“Positive anything is better than negative nothing.” – Elbert Hubbard

“You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream.” – Les Brown

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” – Melton Berle

Now that we’ve given you tips & tricks on how to enjoy a New Year’s bash at home, and a how-to on prepping for a peppy 2021, the power is in your hands! Be sure to pop to the centre to grab the essentials you need while getting organised for the 1st January and beyond… Chesterfield Pavements Shopping Centre is wishing you a happy and healthy New Year.

The Family Fun Guide for December!

We get it, 2020 hasn’t been the best year and so much has been affected: holidays abroad with loved ones, date nights with your best friends or even the simplest things like seeing your grandparents!

Well, Chesterfield Pavements want to make sure that the last month of the year can make up for it all… Whether it’s having fun on zoom with family, new foodie creations or making everything ‘just so’ before Santa drops down the chimney!

We’re here to give you a family fun guide on how to keep the kids (and yourselves) entertained during the month of December. With unique ideas and the centre at your fingertips, we’re here to make your life simple and the festive period sparkle a little extra.

Cooking Biscuits for Santa & His Reindeers

Mr Claus and his pack of reindeer will be landing on your home imminently! He’ll be shimmying down the chimney quicker than you can say Christmas cookies and milk… So, you better get your skates on a bake a few treats for them all to enjoy. Although, we heard carrots are preferred by Rudolph and his buds!

Here’s a quick guide to making simple sugar cookies:

Ingredients: 225g unsalted butter | 225g caster sugar | 1 tsp vanilla extract | 1 egg | 2 tsp baking powder | 330g plain flour

Method: Preheat oven to 180°C | Cream together sugar & butter in a bowl until fluffy | Beat in vanilla & egg until combined | In a separate bowl mix the flour with the baking powder and slowly add to the wet ingredients a bit at a time.

At this point, the dough will be very stiff, so you won’t need to chill the dough. Sort into manageable batches, roll out onto a floured surface and cut into your desired shape(s). Finish by baking in the oven for 8-10 mins and allow to cool on the baking sheet. Eh viola! Santa will be super holly-jolly when he sees these treats!

Be sure to grab any ingredients or baking utensils from Tesco – plus, fancy new tableware to present your cookies on Poundland!

We can just smell the sugary goodness…

Get Creative: Family Christmas Card Edition

Again, as social distancing is still around, it will mean a lack of face-to-face interactions with those you love the very most! A lovely way to feel more connected with friends and family is to make your own Christmas cards. Plus, getting the kids involved will mean extra glitter, Chrimbo themed stickers and felt tip pen stick people that look nothing like their cousins! You can easily grab arts & crafts from WHSmith or Poundland and enjoy a night in with the kids, making something even the most distant of relatives will adore!

You could even dress up in your fave Christmas jumpers and snap a photo of you all, stick it on the front of some card with your special message inside and Santa’s your uncle!

Alternatively, you could pick up a box (or two) of ready-made Chrimbo cards from Card Factory – then each take turns to make your mark inside! There’s a tonne of cool options…

Christmas Movie Marathon!

/var/www/vhosts/chesterfieldpavements.co.uk/httpdocs/wp content/uploads/untitled design 7

This may seem like something you do on the regular, but you can turn it into a family weekend ritual throughout December! Give each person in the family the chance to choose a Xmas themed film they love and watch it with lots of snacks and fluffy blankets to hand!

We recommend grabbing new movies from Tesco or WHSmith if you can’t find anything on the telly! Snacks are a MUST from Tesco as well as takeaway faves from Peacocks Café, Greggs and even Pound Bakery *licks lips*…

Also, if you’d like to get a few healthier treats to nibble on, you could also pop to Grapetree!

We also suggest ELF or Home Alone to begin with…

The Night Before Xmas: Zoom Style

Yep, we may not be able to have the WHOLE family together this Christmas, so why not have quality time, digitally on Christmas Eve! Yes, we said DIGITALLY! This way, you’re able to have a chinwag or get everyone onboard with a fun, festive-themed quiz! FYI: If you need any gadget accessories to get you set up for your family zoom call, grab them from Top Gifts on your next visit!

To step things up a Chrimbo notch, you could decorate a wall in the home, and have a competition to see who’s oozing holly jolly vibes! Then, everyone on Zoom can vote – although, all you’d win is a round of applause and satisfaction that all the decorations you grabbed from Tesco & The Christmas Shop were worth it!!

Be sure to grab extra bits & bobs from Poundland too! It could be banners, hanging decorations like snowflakes or lanterns and mini glittery Xmas trees that you can pop in the background for all to see!

If the ladies of the household fancy going the extra mile, you could sport a festive-themed jumper (or accessory) from Revolve… Everyone would be super jealous of your blingy threads!

Magical Surprises…

This is something that could make this Christmas the most magical it’s ever been! You could buy fake snow, imprints of Santa Claus’ boot or Rudolph’s hoof and plant them coming from the back door or fireplace! Imagine the kiddies waking up and thinking that they’ve REALLY been in the house…

Even getting the younger kids to write and ‘post’ their Christmas letters or wish lists to the elf helpers in the North Pole would really work their imaginations! You can buy everything from colour pens, writing paper, stickers and more from the centre on your next visit!

Now that we’ve given you fun family ideas for the month ahead, we hope that you’ll put them to good use and enjoy the time you have with family & friends. Be sure to keep up to date with Chesterfield Pavements social channels and tag us in any pictures of the unique activities you’ve decided to do over the holidays!

Chesterfield Pavements Christmas Guide is here!

Sleigh whaaaat? Christmas shopping already… You got that right! There’s no need to worry about compiling lists for each individual and racking your brains with what to buy your nephew, second cousin or mum, ‘cos Chesterfield Pavements have your back! We’ve put together a Christmas Gift Guide that will cut your shopping time in half… which means more relaxation time with mince pies & mulled wine for you! *Takes sip*

We would like to remind our customers that the centre only has stores open for essentials items to be purchased. We’re hoping to re-open fully (fingers crossed) by the 3rd December, after Lockdown 2.0 has ended. Although most of the stores mentioned in this article are currently closed, there’s no harm getting a little inspiration and planning out what you’d like to pick up – so, once the doors are open, you can get what you need in a flash.

We Require Your ‘Presents’…

Be it your daughter, stepdad, mother, or uncle, we’ll even give you different price points for the people you love, ensuring no one breaks the bank this festive season!

Young boys & girls in the family, under £50: Smaller toy sets or plush teddy bears from Tesco are a sure winner with kiddies’! For girls who are a little older and are into accessorising like ‘grown up girls’, you can grab them festive hair clips or Chrimbo themed clothing from Poundland – or shoes that offer a little sparkle from Shoezone! We’ve got ideas for the boys too… a cool tracksuit from Sports Direct with matching sneakers of course!

Under £20: Sweet make up gifts or funky pieces for their bedrooms (or even for the new school year) from Poundland and WHSmith will have the sophisticated young ladies smiling ear to ear! Little cars, helicopters and dinosaur toys will have younger boys joyous! Not to mention fun games that will get the whole family up and having fun… plus, painting, or colouring sets will get their creative juices flowing! All can be found from Poundland and WHSmith too.

Stocking fillers under £10: Smaller gifts like little books, colouring pads, dolls and other toys will fill up those stockings quicker than you can say ‘Make it rein!’. We’d recommend grabbing these essentials from Boots and Poundland.

Even though some of our stores are currently closed, there’s nothing wrong with writing a list of what you need, so once they have re-opened, you can tick everything off your ‘to pick-up’ list!

Teenage Dreams!

Teens in the family, under £50:

Forget ‘resting grinch face’, any teenager would be happy with what we’re about to say…

Gift cards are always a safe option! This way, they can choose what they want for themselves, but if you’re wanting to get them something with a little more pizzazz, look out for fruity fragrances from The Fragrance Shop or something with a little twinkle from Warren James… That will most definitely make a special present! (We would have loved something so sophisticated at 14!).

You can switch it up and get them the girls something chic from Bodycare and boys new kicks from Sports Direct. Gadgets like mini speakers for their rooms or accessories for their phones would be a real #Treat -when they re-open Top Gift are here at the centre to help with anything electronic!

Under £20: As each day gets chillier, we think another idea for a teens perfect present has to be a cosy hoodie or co-ord set from Tesco or Sports Direct!

Gift sets that mean the giftee must set time aside for themselves are a constant winner in our books! We’d recommend the gifting aisle from Boots – they have everything from eye shadow palettes to candles and men’s care essentials!

Stocking fillers, under £10: This doesn’t have to be tricky, funky phone accessories from Top Gift, hobby essentials from WHSmith or even a new diary for 2021 from Card Factory is just the ticket!

Although some of these stores are currently closed due to the second national lockdown, remind yourself to write down anything may need, so once the centre fully re-opens, you can grab everything in no time at all. Also, we’d like to remind you that Greggs & Pound Bakery are at the centre for when you need a cheeky mince pie or coffee while ticking everything off of your Xmas list… *YUM*

You only get better with age…

The older loves of your life, under £50: These ladies & gents really do deserve the best! But you have ‘the final sleigh’ when it comes to what you buy them, so here’s a little inspo…

A swanky new scent from The Fragrance Shop will have the recipients saying, ‘Love at frost sight’!

We think a cosy scarf or pair of gloves for the ladies from Tesco would be great too. Or a new piece of jewellery from Warren James would make anyone smile with joy… Anything gadget-like for the ‘lads’ would be a hit! Whether it’s something for their laptops or accessories for the living room, like speakers from Tesco or EE. Before you say it; ‘yes there’s myrrh’ – comfortable jersey tracksuits from Sports Direct make the perfect boxing day outfits for the whole family!

Under £20: If you know they have a favourite hobby, like baking, you can get them new utensils or tableware from Poundland! (Who wouldn’t love a new baking bowl?!) Quirky homeware is also a fun route to go down. You know, quote mugs and funky frames that’ll deck out the kitchen, bedroom or living room perfectly! You could however, flip 180 and make it all about the men in your life who deserve a little TLC… Create them a small hamper with all their favourite bits inside, this could be fun food from Tesco, shaving balms from Boots and football-themed word search books from WHSmith.

Stocking fillers, under £10: We’ll keep it simple; it has to be cosy sport socks or sliders from Sports Direct, or a ‘must read’ book from WHSmith. Plus, small beauty gift sets or men’s skin care essentials from Tesco would get anyone *Happy Dancing*.

We’re hoping all of our gifting ideas will inspire you to get yourself in gear and ‘sleigh’ the season ahead! Like we said before, even though some shops are currently closed, we know you’ll get your wish-lists sorted while you have the extra time at home. We look forward to seeing you back at the centre soon. #ShopSafe #InThisTogether

Scents Worth Celebrating

It’s that time of year when thinking about presents for those we love can feel a mix of bamboozling and fun! The standard gift card, Christmas spiced biscuits or pack of new socks just isn’t cutting the mustard and you’re looking to  pick up presents that show you ‘know them’, ‘love them’ and have ‘spent time’ thinking about what they’d like to unwrap come Christmas morning (or any special occasion in fact!).

So, we’ve decided to take the hard work out of finding the perfect gift by giving you new ideas when it comes to presents, must-have fragrances and, even, suggestions to reflect their favourite season and mood. Who wouldn’t love a new scent for Christmas?!  So, here comes Chesterfield Pavements, to the rescue, with all the inspo you could need…

*Please remember that some of our stores will be closed from the 5th November, but there’s no need to worry! In preparation for the shops re-opening, you could make a list of the things you need to buy, and for which loved one it’s for! That way, you’ll be super prepared once the centre is fully open and you can get all the things you need in no time at all.

Autumn & Winter Aromas, At Your Service!

There’s so much to love about this time of year.  From green to amber, acorns begin to fall from the trees and the leaves change colour. This is the season for deep, seductive fragrances, those containing spicy, musky tones that linger on the skin and clothing for hours on end. Look out for fragrances that contain hints of musk, sandalwood, jasmine and amber especially.

You’ll find seasonal favourites in most of our stores (and online too!). We would recommend Poundland for added extras when looking for Christmas gift inspiration, or something small to brighten up your own home (while making it smell divine!). Pieces like incense sticks, candles and wax melts will do just the trick, plus who wouldn’t love one of these additional gifts with a new bottle of perfume? Ummmm, we would!!

Seeing as we’re quite close to the festive season too, you’re probably wondering; ‘What kind of scents should I be looking out for?’ Well, it’s all about citrus, spiced cinnamon, vanilla and cardamon – these warming tones will help lift spirits on a cold Winter’s day.

Select a fragrance that is reminiscent of holiday scents, like, pomegranate, vanilla bean, sharp lemon, or zesty orange. Some spiced aromas can be a little harsh during the warmer months of the year, but they bring a sense of warmth to the crisp winter air – so, you’ll feel cosy and fuzzy with just a quick spritz! We recommend an online browse on The Fragrance Shop  site and viewing their extensive range – they have new, traditional, and promotional scents that will most certainly tickle your fancy!

For a little added inspiration, we think it would be fun to match the fragrance you choose with a scented candle or a beauty gift set, including a fragrant hand or face cream from Boots after shopping for any lockdown essentials. You could even push the boat out and get a box of infused tea bags to match the season or perfume you’ve said yes to! (We’ll go for a cinnamon flavoured tea if you don’t mind…)

Need a ‘Spring’ In Your Step?

If the thought of a gloomy winter ahead, brings feelings of dread, why not consider a scent which will reflect freshness, lightness, and feelings of joyful nostalgia – whilst we can’t make Spring come any sooner, there’s no reason why you can’t choose a fragrance that transports your loved one to the warmer months.

Pick a perfume or cologne that includes notes of lily of the valley, peonies, and refreshing violets. For individuals that prefer scents which are extra crisp, odours of mint, basil and orange blossom are just as appealing for the springtime. (We’re getting hungry just thinking about it…)

When you’re next at Chesterfield Pavements, be sure to pop into Tesco for new favourites for yourself or as a gift for a family member or friend! Don’t forget, you can browse Bodycare online too… Whether it’s for new scented lotions, facial masks or a new body mist. Plus, if it’s not in store, you can always order it online to be delivered straight to your home! *Happy Face*

Dreaming of An Escape to The Sun?

If you’re buying for someone who thrives on sunny getaways, perhaps they need a fragrance that gets them there in spirit?

Choose a fragrance which reflects that happy, sweet, and sexy mood that is often related to the summer holidays, alfresco date nights and spending extra time with your loved ones.

We’re thinking warm sweet florals like roses and orange blossoms, along with fresh fruit scents like raspberry and peach.  Select more tropical notes, including honeysuckle, island flowers, and sea salt – all remembrances of what we’re currently missing! Long, sun-soaked days on a beach…

Opting for fresher, cooler aromas contrast the hot weather perfectly. Little tip for you all, summer perfumes should be applied lightly to the skin, as their scent is much stronger due to the high temperatures they’re intended to be worn in. We’d suggest an online look at  The Fragrance Shop or  Boots (which you can also visit at the centre) – they have an abundance of perfumes, body mists and gift sets that will have you spoilt for choice! *Spritz spritz*

No one said that buying for a birthday, valentines or an anniversary in the new year is too early… we think if you see something fab, grab it while you can, especially if it’s currently on offer!

Now that we’ve given you tonnes of ideas for Christmas and beyond, we’ll be excited to see you, in the centre, on the other side of lockdown, buying a perfume or cologne for that special someone. Happy shopping from Chesterfield Pavements!

How to Have A Hauntingly Fun Halloween!

We get it, HALLOWEEN 2020 isn’t what we’d thought it would be. Probably no door-to-door trick or treating due to lockdown guidelines and certainly no Halloween parties with tonnes of friends and family! But there’s no need to be glum, because there’s a heap of ideas that we’re about to let loose on how you can still have fun as a family – or in groups of 6!

Whether you’re in need of frighteningly fantastic treats, spooky accessories to match a costume or hallow-inspired tableware, the centre is here to help you ‘creep it real’… We look forward to helping you make this year the best yet!

Before you scroll any further, we have a joke for you to guess the answer to. Answer will be revealed at the end of the style article.

‘What do mummies listen to on Halloween?’

Eat, Drink & Be Scary!

Having Halloween at home doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom! It can be just as fun as trick or treating or attending a fancy-dress party… We’ve got a recipe that will make you say, ‘oh my gourd!’. These 3-ingredient biscuits are super easy to make and will keep the kids occupied as your mini home-Halloween party commences!

You’ll need:

  • Shortbread biscuits (ready made or homemade, it’s up to you!)
  • Icing sugar or melted white chocolate
  • Chocolate chips

How to:

  • Dip one side of your shortbread biscuit into the icing sugar or melted white chocolate. (If you are using icing sugar, remember to add a little water at a time until you get a thick consistency).
  • Once one side is dipped and covered in the white icing sugar or chocolate, add two chocolate chips as the eyes and one for the mouth! Yes, you want that spooky and shocked face going on…
  • And you’re DONE! Leave to set and you’ll have ghost-like biscuits ready to be devoured! *They will keep for up to 3-4 days in an airtight container at room temperature.

Be sure to pick up cooking utensils from Poundland or even foodie ingredients from Tesco! Remember, you can always use vegan chocolate if you want to try something new.

Obviously, if you fancy a spiced latte or ready-made sweet treat, Peacocks Cafe’ will have you covered.

Ghoulish Games!

Of course, the traditional game of ‘bobbing for apples’ is great, but here are some tips on new games that you’ll enjoy playing whether it’s with your children or friends.

Mummy of the year: If the name didn’t give the game away, you’ll have to dress up your partner in rolls of toilet paper under time conditions! The person who looks most like a mummy by the end of it wins an extra chocolate bar (YUM!). Be sure to grab a few extra loo rolls when you’re next at the centre.

Sweety Jenga: Grab a bucket of relatively flat Halloween sweets (think chocolate bars) and take turns stacking them on top of one another. The first person to knock down the stack loses — and the winners get to split the sweet loot. You can grab all your favourite treats from Tesco, Poundland and even WHSmith! (FYI: WHSmith have personalised name Dairy Milk Chocolate Bars… You can thank us later!)

Halloween Charades: This Halloween game is perfect if you’re staying home with a small group this year. Simply write your favourite Halloween or spooky movies and phrases onto index cards and play a game of Charades – this will separate the ghouls from the Hallow-queens & kings. *Don’t forget to pick up those nostalgic movies from WHSmith – there’ll be tonnes to choose from.

We do hope #HocusPocus & #TheAddamsFamily are on your #to watch list’.

Local Lovin’

Yes, supporting your community (local farms especially) during the spooky season is important! You can pop to your local farm or supermarket and grab the essentials. And when we say essentials, we mean pumpkins, fresh apples, and Autumn veggies to enjoy.

Be sure to grab a large, juicy pumpkin to carve, ‘cos what’s Halloween without one?! Plus, fresh apples to cover in toffee and enjoy with a hot cup of tea (FYI; we recommend any infusion blend, mmmm).

And for any autumn veggies you stack up in your trolley, be sure to cook up a storm as the weather gets chillier. We think a warming stew, homemade soup or casserole sounds to die for! If you need a little extra inspo, be sure to pick up a cookbook from WHSmith when you’re next at the centre.

Costume Conundrums

Now this is a hard one! That dreaded question: ‘What are you wearing for Halloween?’ – this year is a little different, so get creative and enjoy the season in all its unique glory. Whether you’re wanting to match with your child or bestie, there’s plenty of retailers at the centre to help you with your desired look…

Grab extra decorations, costume accessories and all sorts of face paint from Poundland! But, if you’re really struggling with who or what to be for the 31st October, here are our top 5 faves:

  • A ghostbuster (perfect for all)
  • A pirate, pretty princess, scary skeleton, or an animal of choice! (perfect for kids and, to be honest, the list never ends!)
  • An army general (perfect for dads)
  • Wonder Woman (to all mums, EVERYWHERE!)

Be sure to take a picture with whoever you have round for your Halloween gathering, it could be a new tradition that’ll make memories for years to come. We’re hoping that our tips on how to make #Halloween2020 special has made you re-think cancelling any fun plans you had in place.

We’ll leave you with the answer if you hadn’t already guessed it…

Save Your Skin… from Chilly, Wintery Weather!

Dry, cracked skin, begone!!

We have a few tips and tricks on how to maximise moisture and minimise any discomfort your skin may have due to the incoming chilliness… Whether you’re in need of a soothing facemask, scented soaps or nutrient-infused exfoliators, the centre will be here to help and stop the dropping temperature from chapping any lips! *Takes out lip balm*

To make things super simple, we’re going to give you a few essential tips, with the retailers that’ll become your new best friends, so sit back, relax and read away…

Moisturise, relax, rinse

Layer On & Hydrate!!

You must love a product that hydrates and gives your skin a little extra life! Why serum you ask? Because serums offer a liquid-like format, especially those containing Vitamin C! They help even out your skin tone and improve the appearance after continual use. They can also be used to combat signs of aging, plump up your skin and reduce the presence of wrinkles and fine lines. Who wouldn’t want that, right?

Lock in moisture with a cream…

There are 3 types of moisturising agents:

  • Humectants: Attract and hold on to water.
  • Emollients: These are skin softeners that sink in and help bind cells together, making your skin feel smoother. (Could use jojoba oil and shea butter).
  • Occlusives: These block the water in your skin from evaporating. During your ‘morning routine’ for example, this ‘occlusives’ layer comes last, as it does the job of locking in the moisture! (Could use petroleum jelly, mineral oil and lanolin).

Need a new lathering cream to get the job done? Walk through the aisles of Boots and more for tonnes of options. We think a scented product would be nice too, smelling like a fresh bouquet or coconut all day doesn’t sound too bad at all…

 Facial Fun

DIY Avocado & Honey Facemask:

You need: 1 smashed avocado and two teaspoons of honey.

Method: As good on the face as it is on the plate, smashed avo mixed with a couple teaspoons of honey will treat dry, flaky skin. Mix and scrub your face with it for a minimum of 10 minutes. Leave it on for half an hour and then rinse with warm water. *Both ingredients contain humectants, which are used to reduce the loss of moisture from the skin. You can thank us later…

Treating your skin to a packet or DIY facial that will deliver an extra boost of hydration to your skin is just what you need after a long week at work! This is particularly good to do in the morning, or before you’re about to get ready for a night on the town… You could even buy some of those rejuvenating under-eye or lip smoothing masks (they work wonders!!)

You can pick up a few of your favourite facemasks from Bodycare if you’re feeling fancy, maybe you can grab a few ‘relaxing’ essentials (or even the facemask ingredients!) from Tesco –  Avocados, candles or even a new novelty mug for your infused tea to enjoy while your mask is hardening…

Lip Balm Love

You need a lip-smacking balm that’ll prevent uncomfortable chapping. The balm will work to moisturise dried tissue in the lip, while protecting the area from exposure to wind and cold temperatures!

We recommend the retailers below if you need a new balm to get you through the upcoming (and most likely) chilly season. *Brrrrr* Grab a few Poundland favourites in store today! They’ll have everything from moisturising to scented and flavoured!

Shower or Bath? Moisturise Immediately!

You may not know this but applying moisturiser on damp skin is the way forward! During wintertime however, it can be a little nippy once you pop out the shower or bath – which means you’re probably not in the mood to stand around lathering up your skin. So instead you get dressed or lie on your bed, tightly covered in your towel waiting to dry off a bit.

Whip out the body cream and don’t even leave the bathroom to apply – because walking from your bathroom to your room will evaporate the water droplets you need.

Nails, Hands & Cuticles Need TLC too!

Rough feeling hands are just the worst, plus your nails and cuticles take a bit of a battering once the weather becomes cooler! The nail shop queues even quieten down seeing as it’s too chilly to leave the comfort of your cosy blanket set up at home…

Opt for a new hand & nail cream that’ll keep skin smooth, supple and protected. You can grab a handbag-sized bottle from Boots – to be honest, you might want a little snack in there for later, so we recommend popping to Pound Bakery or Greggs for a delicious pastry or sweet treat.

Now that we’ve given you a few handy tricks on how to keep your skin silky smooth as cooler weather commences, we’d love for you to pop down to the centre and pick up all the essentials you need! We look forward to seeing you soon.

Get your mid-September #HealthOn

Suddenly it’s mid-September, schools are back in session, some people are back to work, and in the shops you can start to see Halloween and Christmas starting to take over… (We know it sounds crazy, but it’s always closer than you think!).

It’s a common trend around this time of year that healthy eating and keeping fit go somewhat out the window as nights start to draw in, but egg white brekkies and cashew nuts as midday snacks isn’t always practical when your routine is getting back on track!

And seeing as the entire world has had a tough time of it this year, (virus that shall not be named) we thought it was time we took matters into our own hands, rather than waiting for ‘summer season’ to re-grace us with its presence, reminding us to get healthy for those holiday snaps. Now is the time to get your #HealthOn and Chesterfield Pavements is here to help you with your journey!

Get into Fitness!

It could be time to swap your croissant for a cross trainer (well you can have one or two still, just in moderation). If you can make it to a weekly fitness classes, or squeeze in a session whenever you can, you’ll keep burning calories to keep on top of your health for 2020. You might as well enter the new year feeling your very best, right?

Although, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a sweet treat or cool coffee frappe from Massarella’s

Upgrade you Leisure Wear & Accessories

If you’re in need of moist-wicking clothes to keep you fresh during workouts, daily walks or staying active with the kids come weekends, we suggest you head to Sports Direct for leggings, trackies, trainers and more!

Plus, Tesco & Poundland will have the accessories you’ll need to keep hydrated while getting your sweat on: water bottles and refreshing energy drinks!

Top Up your Vital Vitamins

After COVID’s peak, and with a possible further wave on the way, we think it’s super important to keep our immune systems in tip-top shape. We’re highlighting below the 8 best vitamins and minerals to support a healthy immune system:

You can pick these up from Boots & Tesco:

  • Vitamin B
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Folic acid
  • Iron
  • Selenium
  • Zinc

Get into Healthy Habits

You, your kids, family members and friends can remain on the health track without straying by adopting a few healthy habits here and there! These habits will keep individuals entertained, healthy and even help boost your child’s immune system in various ways. So, it’s win, win really!

  • Serve more fruits and vegetables. This can be as part of crudité platters for snacking in between meals or fruit bowls as desserts instead of heaps of cookie dough or bags of sweeties. If you (or your littluns’ deserve a little sweet treat, add a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce over your fresh fruit!). You can always buy new dessert bowls or swanky wooden platters from Tesco if you fancy new tableware!
  • Boost sleep time! Sleep is good, and we want to make sure the whole family is getting a good 8 hours minimum. Try a pillow spray at bedtime, or listening to soft music to help you relax.
  • Exercise as a family. Exercising doesn’t have to be a chore, so enjoy the time together in the park or garden! Keeping kids active is harder than ever now that electronic games have taken over the 21st century. Head to Shoe Zone, Tesco & Sports Direct to pick the kiddies out new football boots with a ball to match, plus any accessories to get them in the mood. Or get creative with bits from Poundland & Whsmith to ensure that outdoor activities always stay fun. We think, creating ‘completion medals’ or following ‘circuit cones’ is a great place to start!
  • Guard against germ spread. Head to the centre’s cleaning haven – Boots will be your go-to. Stock up on kitchen supplies, home cleaning products and anti-bac that’ll pop into your bag easily. These items will kill germs before you can say ‘spread’!

We’ve given you our go-to shops when you visit Chesterfield Pavements. Now it’s up to you to kick-start a healthy September and beyond.

(Finally) Back to School!

‘Ding-Ding!’

It’s been a long time coming, but finally, the new school term is back in session! We’re here to give you the 4-1-1 when it comes to what your kids may need when they return back to school. Whether it’s a smart new uniform, stationery or notebooks to keep organised, Chesterfield Pavements Shopping Centre is here to help you tick off everything on your must-have list!

Need to knock the ‘back to school jitters’ out of your system? Let’s face it, COVID-19 & lockdown has kept us caged in for months and heading towards (almost) complete normality can be a little daunting! But with our tips and tricks, you’ll be prepared and ready to ACE the new term.

A+ GRADE LOOKS

child

With the last school day back in March for most, it’s time for a fresh set of everything – you’ll need new school trousers, pleated kilts and patent school shoes! Wondering where to start?  Chesterfield Pavements is home to a bunch of retailers who’ll make picking up the essentials in one easy trip a simple task! We recommend heading to:

SHOEZONE | TESCO | SPORTS DIRECT – These are the places you’ll find some of those uniform must-haves. Shoezone is perfect for picking up your littluns’ preferred shoes, while Tesco’s will have packs of plain vests and perhaps themes lunch boxes too! Plus, Sports Direct is where you’ll find sporty bits for PE kits, new trainers and school accessories like water bottles, socks and more.

CHESTERFIELD LIBRARY: Does your child need a few books for school or to read at home perhaps? Pick up a few new reads and enjoy them at bedtime or after completing homework, as a ‘winding down for the day’ treat.

TICKED OFF YOUR TO-DO!

to do

And it’s not just the kids getting ready. Returning teachers and parents have also been prepping hard, from school lesson plans to new work wardrobes.

We think teachers should be thinking of tapered trousers and slick shirts to show that ‘they mean business!’. And for all the wonderful parents that’ll be doing the morning rounds and drop-offs, we suggest cosy tracksuits or simple coordinates that you can throw together early in the morning!

Unless you’re heading to work straight after… If so, think skirt & blazer combos, tailored trousers that offer a little stretch for comfort and contemporary shirts that offer an oversized silhouette. (Yes, I know! We’ve made wanting a new wardrobe SO tempting)

So, if you’re in need of some new threads, you can head to TESCO, SHOEZONE and SPORTS DIRECT.

SMASHING STATIONERY!

diary

This year, the centre has you covered! You’ll need the usual fab new pencil case, protractors, safety scissors and all-new colouring pencils! We think it’s best for you to pop to: WHSMITH | TESCO | POUNDLAND. They’re all havens in which you’ll find everything for little kids and teens alike. Study guides and stationery kits are plentiful, plus – pens, calculators and academic diaries.

*Oooh, don’t forget those colourful sticky tabs that’ll keep your kids organised. Red for homework to complete and green for homework completed perhaps?

APPRECIATION IS KEY!

thank you letter

Feeling thankful for the school’s staff? Show a little appreciation for those who teach, create new learning programmes and have the patience of absolute saints! If you’d like to give a gift to a headteacher, teaching assistant, cleaner or janitor (whoever it may be) we recommend:

CARD FACTORY – Get creative and pick up arts & crafts from the Card Factory! You can create teachers’ (or for the friends you may not have seen in March) welcome back cards, a painting or something to remind them of a memory when you were in their class.

THE FRAGRANCE SHOP – Perfect for a late thank you gift for teachers, cleaners and keyworkers that have worked so hard over the last few months. Pick them up something that smells sweet and fruity!!

We think that’s more than enough to keep you busy! Whether you’re off to get small feet sized-up, welcome back prezzies for your favourite teachers or finding the perfect cigarette trouser on your return back to work – we wish you luck for the new term!
