January is the perfect month to settle down and focus on your body and mind, detoxing and re-energising after the stresses of 2021 and the inevitable excess that come with Christmas and New Year.

Limit Alcohol

The first step in any detox has to start with limiting alcohol and we suggest you head to Tesco to check out their extensive range of zero alcohol- and alcohol-free spirits and beers, if you feel like you are craving the taste – this may just be the perfect answer to achieving a dry January!

You can also turn your hand to making and getting creative with making, mocktails – you can experiment with mixers and flavours and if you still crave the real deal after January – you will at least be a whizz at the recipes.

Blood Orange and spiced Vanilla Mocktail

Ingredients

  • 6 blood oranges juice, freshly squeezed,
    • slices for garnish
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 lime
  • 500ml sparkling water
  • blood orange slices for garnish
  • cardamom
  • ginger

Instructions

  1. Squeeze the blood orange juice into a jar with a lid or cocktail shaker. Add the honey, spices and vanilla extract to the fresh juice. Shake. Add ice to cool it down.
  2. With the drinking glasses – you can frost the rims using orange juice round the rim and dipping into crystalised brown sugar, gold and silver sprinkles or other edible decorative frosting, generally it is wise to use a ready-made decorator icing for the rim as opposed to orange juice for things such as sprinkles to stick.
  3. Pour evenly into two ice-filled glasses. Top with a squeeze of lime and sparkling water and a slice of blood orange on top.

Notes: Squeeze the blood orange juice on a non-porous surface or one that you don’t mind ruining. It will stain.

Focus on Sleep

Next on the list is to focus on your sleep and sleep preparation, we would encourage you to really go to town on relaxation techniques and pampering yourself, allowing yourself some time to unwind and relax in order to get the best nights rest you can and make the most of your other detox efforts.

 If you are slightly sleep deprived, it can have a tremendous knock-on effect on your cognitive abilities and other areas of your work and social life and really getting this routine nailed will be one of the best things you have ever rewarded yourself with.
